Alveo IPS/IDS Offload
In the last blog post, we discussed the official partnership between Accolade and Xilinx to run FPGA IP on Alveo Accelerator Cards. Over time, we will be providing specifics on many different applications that can benefit from the Accolade and Alveo combination. The first application we are highlighting is CPU offload for intrusion prevention (IPS) and intrusion detection (IDS) systems. In fact, we have launched that solution on the Xilinx Alveo website. Security applications such as intrusion prevention (IPS) and intrusion detection (IDS) systems are often bound by available CPU resources. That is to say, available CPU cycles are often not adequate enough to handle the required application processing load. The powerful combination of Accolade FPGA intellectual property coupled with a Xilinx Alveo accelerator card helps overcome these CPU-related bottlenecks by freeing up valuable CPU cycles to tackle higher value tasks. For example, the Accolade flow shunting capability can programmatically identify unwanted application traffic based on policy and discard that data, so the security application does not waste precious resources on this CPU intensive task
