Move Network Traffic Across the PCIe Bus Efficiently without Dropping Packets 

At low speeds, software can provide the performance needed for 100% packet capture but at 10, 40 and 100G network speeds, packet loss is almost inevitable. FPGA-based host cpu offload is an efficient option that can solve the issue.

Network traffic is captured via an Ethernet interface, processed by the onboard FPGA and then intelligently steered directly to host memory for processing by the application. For multi-core CPU based appliances, the FPGA adapter intelligently distributes traffic to all available CPU cores thereby maximizing performance and efficiency.

There are many vendors that provide “raw” FPGA-based cards, leaving the customer to figure out what to do with the hardware.
