Traffic Shaping
Traffic shaping is applied on traffic sources entering a network to ensure the traffic complies with a contract which may be enforced in the network.
Traffic shaping rules are stored in an Action Control List (ACL) table and the selected shaping algorithms (Weighted Round Robin, Random Early Detection, etc) are then applied on each flow-id presented by the hash based classifier. Traffic shaping uses packet compliance and prioritization to increase network performance, improve latency, and optimize packet transfer rates.
