Accolade Customer Profile
We often get asked what type of customers typically utilize Accolade FPGA-based SmartNICs. There is of course no single answer to the question, but there are a few common characteristics of most Accolade customers. The first is that the solution the customer has in mind is delivered via a server or appliance form factor. In other words, there is some hardware involved and often that hardware is an appliance that the customer sells. In addition to adapters that plug into an appliance’s PCIe slot(s), we also offer a fully integrated appliance in our ATLAS series which customers can use off the shelf.
Secondly, the customer usually has some repetitive or processor intensive tasks such as flow classification, packet filtering, or timestamping that are taking up entirely too many software cycles. The Accolade FPGA-based SmartNICs are great at relieving the host CPU from burdensome tasks and in turn freeing up the CPU to handle more important or high value tasks. On some occasions we don’t have the immediate solution to offload a CPU intensive task for our customers, but through joint collaboration we often develop a custom solution that is tailored to a very specific customer requirement.
