Data Deduplication with ATLAS-1100
We discussed the ATLAS-1100 Service Node (ASN) last week and data deduplication before that, so this week we want to discuss how those two can be combined. Duplicated data packets are a fact of life in any monitored network and pose a significant burden on analytics tools. We have seen networks with as high as 50% duplicated traffic; often because a SPAN port is configured to copy ingress and egress data from every switch port, which leads to duplicate packets for every packet that goes into and out of a network switch.
With its relatively low cost and powerful onboard FPGA, the ATLAS-1100 is perfectly suited to perform deduplication efficiently and cost-effectively. Since the FPGA parses each incoming packet, it can keep track of matching packets and discard them when detected. This in turn eliminates unnecessary traffic and relieves analytics tools from having to process up to 50% extra traffic.
